Stimulate Healing
Bionect is indicated for the management of abrasions, burns (1st and 2nd degree), post operative incisions, donor sites, and various ulcerative conditions of the skin.
Bionect® (hyaluronic acid sodium salt, 0.2%) is a unique low molecular weight hyaluronic acid formulated for topical application. Low molecular weight hylauronic acid (LMWHA) allows for better absorption into the skin and improves its ability to influence healing. Bionect’s water based cream and gel vehicles are hydrating and ideal for sensitive areas of skin breakdown.

HA’s structure is able to scavenge free radicals and mediate inflammation by imparting an antioxidant effect(3)
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is found in all mammals and is unique and highly versatile. Hyaluronic acid plays a vital role in tissue regeneration and wound healing as it is naturally present in high concentrations in the skin and soft connective tissues. In the presence of water, HA molecules can expand in volume up to 1000 times and form loose hydrated matrices to retain hydration more effectively. As a result of its ability to form hydrated matrices, HA has also been successfully used in cosmetic applications such as soft tissue augmentation and the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles.
Hyaluronic acid’s properties serve several roles:
- Space filler - fine lines and wrinkles
- Lubricant - tissue hydrator
- Tissue regeneration mediator - wound care and skin health
Method of Action
Hyaluronic acid is an appropriate choice to support dermal tissue regeneration and augmentation. HA aids in signaling the early stages of inflammation and initiating the wound healing response, and also moderates the later stages of this potentially damaging process. Cross-linked hyaluronic acid accelerates the healing of full-thickness wounds, presumably by providing a highly hydrated and non-immunogenic environment that is conducive to tissue repair.
In the early stages of wound healing, a matrix composed largely of fibrin and HA is formed leading to fibroblast and endothelial cell migration to the area of skin breakdown.
HA plays a multifaceted role in each wound healing stage
- Inflammation
- Granulation tissue formation
- Reepithelization
- Remodeling
The matrix supports granulation tissue formation, particularly where HA has been implicated in aiding scar-free wound healing. The granulation tissue that subsequently forms remains rich in HA, aiding cell migration, proliferation, and organization of the ECM.
Bionect® is intended to cover a burn or wound and protect against abrasion, friction and drying for:
- Partial and full thickness dermal ulcers
- Venous stasis
- Arterial
- Diabetic
- 1st and 2nd degree burns
- Pressure sores
- Abrasions
- Cuts
Do not administer to patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients in this product. Each tube of Bionect® should be used by one person only to reduce the risk of cross infection.
